Welcome to the website of Rail Infrastructure Corporation (RIC).

RIC was established in 2001 as a statutory State Owned Corporation under the Transport Administration Amendment (Rail Management) Act 2000. Under the Act, RIC’s principal objective is to ensure that those parts of the NSW rural network under its responsibility enable safe and reliable passenger and freight services, to be provided in an efficient, effective and financially responsible manner.

In September 2004, the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) leased the NSW Interstate and Hunter Valley Networks (Leased Network) from RIC for 60 years and commenced a management agreement with RIC to operate the Country Regional Network (CRN).

In effect, the NSW rail system was separated into three networks:

RIC has two voting shareholders, each holding one share for and on behalf of the NSW Government. RIC’s voting shareholders are the Hon. Michael Costa, MLC, in his capacity as Treasurer, and the Hon. John Watkins, MP, in his capacity as Minister for Finance.

This website provides further information about RIC, its operations and those parts of the rail network for which it is responsible.
